This term in English Year 1 have been looking at the book Pattan’s Pumpkin by Chitra Soundar. It is based on a tradition flood story from India. We have spent time looking at the area of India and describing what it is like. When we read the book we then drew what was being described before looking at the illustrations. We looked at the verbs in the book and freeze framed some of these as the main character Pattan. We read through the story and created a story mountain for the main events. We then used this to plan and write our own traditional flood stories. The children produced some excellent writing this term. Well done Year 1!
