Let's Celebrate: 2024 - 2025
Term 2, Sycamore Class, Year 6: Exciting Activities
In Term 2, Year 6 explored the properties of light through a hands-on investigation. They learned how light travels and reflects, with a particular focus on how a periscope uses mirrors to reflect light and enable us to see around corners. This activity helped students understand the concept of reflection and how it is applied in real-world devices like periscopes, deepening their knowledge of how light behaves. In addition, they also conducted an investigation into shadows, examining how different light sources affect the appearance of shadows. They discovered that when multiple light sources shine on a single object, the shadows can become blurry or distorted.
In our English unit, the class studied Shakespeare’s Macbeth, focusing on the psychological turmoil of the central characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They discussed how their guilt over their terrible actions led to their downfall, analysing their changing motivations and inner struggles.
The class also wrapped up their World War II topic by exploring the important roles women played during the war and learning about the significance of V.E. Day, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs that shaped the end of the conflict.
December brought us the Christmas Concert at Holy Rood Church where we were delighted to sing and give readings to celebrate the birth of Jesus with our families and friends. Then we had the excitement of the Cinderella pantomime at the Wyvern Theatre, making goodies for the Christmas Fayre, Christmas Dinner and finally our Christmas Mass in school which we were lucky enough to lead. What a busy term – we are truly thankful for everything we do.
